WHY HASN’T GOD LED ME TO MY LIFE’S PARTNER?

Many young people in their mid to late twenties, and dare I say some in their thirties who are single and desiring marriage often question why God hasn’t delivered their spouse to them, with no hassles or fuss as they had always assumed he would when they were growing up.

What is the matter?! There has been no end to asking God to bring the partner. The request has been made with much fasting and prayers as one year turns into another with no viable partner in site. Has one been praying amiss? Is it time to focus one’s prayer life towards identifying a greater purpose that God created one for other than just finding the right partner?

Your perspective and how you frame your thoughts can impact not only your day-to-day life, but also more importantly, your spiritual life.

Who do you think God is? What role does He play in your life? Is He just out there somewhere, or residing deep within your soul?

The way we answer these basic questions directly correlates with our faith life. So, you can see the importance of perspective as it relates to one’s life. It is important to take the time to evaluate your perspective on many aspects of your life, including how you have gone about in your search for your life partner.

As a single woman or man, do you approach dating with the perspective that your future partner was out there—somewhere—and it was up to you to find him or her before he/she ended up with someone else?

Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust in the Lord with all thy heart — Wholly and securely rely upon God’s wisdom, power, and goodness, and upon his providence and promises, for direction and help in all your affairs. Lean not to thine own understanding — Do not think you will succeed by your own designs, strength and understanding, without God’s blessing. We are often given to ignore God and place our trust and confidence in our own abilities, wealth, connections or friends. In all thy ways — Designs and undertakings, both respecting the things of this life and those of the life to come; acknowledge him – (know him), by following his counsels; by relying on his power and goodness; by expecting success from him; by managing all our affairs in such a manner as to please and glorify him; and he shall direct thy steps — So that your ways shall be safe and good, and at last have a happy outcome.

You have to work to overcome your mindset and perspective. You have to live and act with the perspective that God who created you has a larger, more beautiful plan that will unfold in your life. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

So, consciously let go of your own man-made plans and let God lead you to your right partner. – “In all thy ways acknowledge him and he will direct thy paths.” It’s all about perspective.

“Are you interpreting His love by your circumstances instead of interpreting your circumstances by His love?”- – Anne Graham Lotz

So often, we ask questions like why hasn’t God led me to my right partner? Why am I not married when everyone else around me is? By examining the situation from various perspectives, we should see the Holy Spirit working in every aspect of our lives, pointing us down the road of life experiences to eventually lead us to where God has planned. It’s about Him, not about us.

I encourage you to reflect on the many perspectives you have—on dating, relationships, spirituality and love. By evaluating how we view the world around us, and the faith within us, we can journey through our single lives with our eyes and hearts open, trusting that what God has planned and prepared for each of us will come to pass. This is our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
