Anthonia Bisola Otunla is a distinguished mental healthcare clinician, researcher and consultant specialising in trauma and trauma-informed care with profound expertise in neurology, neuropsychology, and traumatic stress. Anthonia has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and communities as they navigate life’s most challenging moments—especially the emotional and psychological toll of trauma. She is the Clinical Director of Thrive Metamorphosis Healthcare, Lagos.
She is certified Trauma Specialist and Certified Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) Practitioner, and holds a postgraduate degree in rehabilitation, a certification in traumatic stress studies, and an advanced diploma in professional counselling. Anthonia has further honed her skills through participation in numerous international training programmes.
Anthonia is renowned for her ability to create safe, nurturing spaces where individuals feel empowered to share their stories, process their emotions, and cultivate effective coping strategies. Her specialised knowledge in traumatic stress, counselling and nonviolent communication uniquely positions her to address the intricate emotional and psychological needs of those affected by trauma, offering them a pathway to healing and resilience.
Anthonia’s journey is deeply personal as well as professional. A survivor and thriver following domestic violence and adverse childhood experiences, she brings not only clinical expertise but also profound empathy and firsthand understanding of trauma to her work. This lived experience fuels her passion for helping others heal and reclaim their lives.
Anthonia is also a passionate advocate for mental health awareness through the arts and digital platforms. She runs a WhatsApp Channel, Thriving Minds Spaceship, providing valuable insights and practical tools for mental wellness. She is also a visionary producer of stage plays that tackle critical social issues, including Well Done, Sir, which sheds light on men’s mental health; The Human Angle, a poignant exploration of infertility; and Blood and the Smile, a powerful production on maternal health and the importance of spousal support.
Beyond her clinical and creative work, Anthonia is a transformational servant leader and community health advocate. She runs Reachout for Health, a community-based initiative that offers free health consultations and referrals to indigent persons in the Shogunle and Ladipo communities of Oshodi Local Government Area, Lagos State.
Anthonia serves as the Vice President of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, Lagos Central Council of Nigeria. She is an active member of the International Leadership Association (ILA), the Compassionate Warriors Cohort of the ILA, and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Volunteer Network for social impact programmes.
