Dr Nnenna Nina Chigbo (PT), HHHF (Global Health), MPH, MNSP, MISEI

Dr Nnenna Nina Chigbo is a graduate of medical rehabilitation (physiotherapy) from the University of Nigeria and has a master’s degree in public health from Imo State University.
In 2010, she was awarded the prestigious Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship granted by the Fulbright Scholarship Board under the US Department of State which earned her a Global Health Fellowship at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. Dr Chigbo also received the prestigious International Haemophilia Training Center Fellowship which she concluded at the Christian Medical Center, Vellore, India. She has served as a guest researcher with the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention Unit of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
She currently serves as the President, Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP), the umbrella organisation for registered physiotherapists in Nigeria and the diaspora, where she offers leadership to over 5,000 practising physiotherapists and acts as a bridge between the old and the young. She is also the Education Director for the World Physiotherapy-International Physiotherapists in HIV/AIDS, Oncology, Hospice and Palliative Care, and received the inaugural Nnenna Chigbo Educational Leadership Award in recognition of excellence in the advancement of global education in oncology, HIV/AIDS and hospice/palliative care rehabilitation during the 2019 World Physiotherapy Congress in Geneva, Switzerland.
She is an Assistant Director, Physiotherapy Services and heads the Exercise Immunology Unit of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital where she designs exercise protocols for people with deranged immune systems and bleeding disorders. She manages her patients from diagnosis to palliative care helping to control pain and other distressing symptoms. She is the resident physiotherapist at the South East Haemophilia Treatment Center and has served as a resource person to many organisations both local and international.
Dr Chigbo has presented at numerous international conferences and has publications in the areas of medical law and ethics, rehabilitation in HIV/AIDS, cancer and palliative care. She has organised and mentored numerous women in Christian and career programmes for different ages. She is an ardent supporter of women entrepreneurs, being one herself and is currently building capacity in the Forum for Women in Physiotherapy.
